The Expo

Why an Expo?

One of the problems many authors, especially self-published authors, is a lack of sufficient exposure. At a recent Warkworth Writers' Group event, one of the authors present complained of the lack of a "platform" to showcase her work, and suggested a book festival. Self-publishing facilitator Frank Nunan of Write-On Publishing had both organised and participated in several Author Events in South Africa (see picture), and felt that an Author Expo, which requires far less organising than a Festival, was the way to start. It could perhaps grow into a full-fledged Festival over time. The idea was presented to the Warkworth War Memorial Library, where it was received enthusiastically, and a decision was made to proceed with the planning.

Simple Format

This first Warkworth Author Festival will take the form of a simple display expo - each author will be allocated a table (or two if he or she needs more space), and can display their books on the table and place posters/banners on or around the table. Visitors to the Expo will have the opportunity to move around the Hall, chat to the authors, buy books and have them signed.

Publicity

"Let Them See the Rabbit!"

The Expo will be followed at 2 pm with a free presentation by Frank Nunan for authors and putative authors. It is called "Let Them See the Rabbit" and deals with ways of getting your books noticed.
